Trail Map to a Successful 2011

Happy New Year! 2010 has come and gone and now is the time to reflect upon the last year and make a trailmap for the new year. Did you accomplish your 2010 goals? If not, what can you do differently this year to reach your summit in 2011? Here are some of my new years goals I’d like to share with you.

Networking – I have to get the word out about my business in order to gain new clients and new business. Like most people, networking gives me the butterflies and takes me out of my comfort zone. I have done some research and found found several networking groups in Erie, Boulder, and Loveland that I am actually excited about checking out. Calling it “making some new friends” makes it sounds less intimidating and maybe it won’t be so bad after all.

I am going to continue networking with local CPA’s and bookkeepers. By working together we can generate leads for each other, bounce ideas of off one another, and work together to improve the service we provide our clients.

Professional Associations – I am already a member of the AICPA and the Colorado Society of CPA’s. Both are great groups, but there are other professional associations that I would like to join. Professional associations provide tons of useful resources and the networking is an added bonus!

Continuing Education – I enjoy learning new things every day. Taking continuing education credits, reading business books, and reading novels makes me a well rounded individual. My goal for 2011 is to read at least one book per month and continue reading my professional journals and industry blogs.

Think Outside of the Box – The CPA profession is changing and I am excited to be on the leading edge of these changes. By being part of this “movement” I believe I can add value to my clients and to my profession. My goals include creating firm culture (yes, my company is only me, myself, and I, but my personal culture and brand will affect my relationships with clients, vendors, and my community), promoting the use of technology to improve my own and my clients efficiency, and creating new ways to better serve my clients. I am really excited about the last step. As it comes together, I will announce these changes and new ideas throughout the year! Stay tuned…

Personally – I can not forget to take care of myself. I want to continue my work-out schedule of exercising 3 days a week and work on minimizing my sweet treats (gotta focus on eating an apple instead of the cookie). Continue activities that allow me to grow as an individual and create happiness in my life. Above all, I want to be the best mom and the best wife. No matter what happens with my business during the year, my family will always come first.

There’s my trail map to creating a successful 2011.

What are your 2011 business and personal goals?

Colorado Minimum Wage Increase Effective Jan 1, 2011

Effective January 1, 2011 Colorado’s Minimum Wage is increasing to $7.36/hour.

The Federal Minimum Wage will remain at $7.25/hour. Since Colorado’s minimum wage rate will be higher, effective January 1, 2011, Colorado employers will be required to pay employees at the Colorado minimum wage rate (employers are required to pay the higher rate if the state & federal minimum wage rates are different).
